UPDATE
Update (August 29, 2013, 3:20 PM): The Treasury Department has announced Revenue Ruling 2013-17. According to the announcement, the ruling provides that the federal government will recognize any same-sex marriage which was valid in the jurisdiction in which the parties were married, even if the parties later moved away. If so, most parties to same-sex marriages will be permitted to file joint federal tax returns.
